Thomas Edison Born 1847 brilliant scientist and inventor
Early Adversity: He did not learn to talk till he was 4. He was thrown out of school at age 12 as he was thought to be too dumb. He had hearing problems from age 14 (he eventually became completely deaf in one ear and could barely hear from the other) and had learning disability or dyslexia.
Overcoming Problems: Over the course of his career Edison patented 1,093 inventions. He was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production to the process of invention, and therefore is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory. He was also responsible for mass produced eletric bulb with a filament.
Edison believed in hard work, sometimes working twenty hours a day. He has been quoted as saying, "Genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration."
